It's almost St Patrick's Day and we've been making shamrocks! Egg cartons are just the perfect recycled material to use for crafts, and they look just like the leaves of a four leaf clover, so we've used them a few other things that you've definitely got in your craft cupboard to make our decorations.
What you'll need:
- egg carton
- green paint
- paint brush
- scissors
- pipe cleaners
We started by painting our egg cartons green. It's fun for the kids to paint things of a different shape and texture, it's a real challenge for them to cover the whole thing with paint. Ivy only just managed to paint to tops, so it's a good thing that her egg carton was green to begin with!
Once the paint was dry we cut our egg boxes into 6 sections, Ethan had a really good try at doing his as he is getting quite good with his scissors, but did need a bit of help around the corners. I did cut Ivy's for her as she is trouble with a pair of scissors!
Then I poked a hole in each of the 4 egg cups that we were using each, and gave the children 3 plain green pipe cleaners and one sparkly green one to poke through each one.
Once they were all through and secured at the ends by folding them over, we turned the whole shamrock over and twisted the pipe cleaners around to secure them.
These shamrocks now make a great decoration in a vase or can be stuck to the front of a card to give to someone. Happy St Patrick's Day!
