Ocean Sensory Bin

13:00

We've just got back from holiday recently, and it was all about swimming and playing in the water.  So of course now that we're back all of our play is based on our experiences and we've made a fun ocean themed sensory bin to play with and explore.

What you'll need:

  • dried white beans (we used haricot beans)
  • chick peas coloured blue (we used the ones from our Earth Day sensory bin)
  • assorted fish toys
  • magnifying glasses
  • scoops and nets

This sensory bin was super easy to set up because I already had the blue chick peas from the Earth Day sensory bin.  I thought they looked a bit like bubbles with the white beans like the sand at the bottom of the ocean that the kids had so much fun scooping up on holiday.

I found lots of little toy fish in our collection for the kids to search for in the sensory bin, just like they loved spotting the fish in the sea when we went swimming at the beach on holiday. Then they could use the magnifying glasses to examine the fish and the sea creatures.

The kids love this simple sensory bin, it's just the start of more of our ocean exploration!

  1. This ocean bin looks like lots of fun. We studied the ocean in preschool this year and I think it was one of my favorite lessons! :)
