Christmas Countdown Wreath Craft

21:57

It feels like we've already started the Christmas countdown in our house, but it will officially start on the first of December with this wreath craft that we've made!  It was so fun and easy to make, it will help us count down the days until Christmas while reinforcing number knowledge, shapes and colours.

What you'll need to make a Christmas Countdown Wreath Craft:

The first step was to cut out the cardboard into a wreath shape, then Ivy painted the whole thing green.  It's great for her attention to detail to make sure that she didn't miss any spots and to make it all as green as possible.

I printed out the numbers from one to twenty-four in a variety of different shapes, which we then cut out ready to stick around our wreath to represent the 24 days of December leading up to Christmas.

I traced around these shapes onto our foam sheets, we used yellow, red and sparkly green foam to make our shapes look a bit like Christmas presents.  We then cut out all of the shapes from the foam.

Next I cut out a middle for the wreath out of black card and Ivy stuck it down with white glue.

Ivy also used the white glue to stick the numbers all around the green part of the wreath in random order (some are even upside down, ha ha!)

The colourful shapes are then stuck onto the middle of the wreath using blue tack, they can be piled all on top of each other in this space, looking like a stack of decorations or Christmas gifts.

Now we're ready for December to begin!  Each day the children will find the corresponding number to the date (either going with the date or counting down from 24 to show how many days are left until Christmas) and then find a colourful shape to match it, sticking it onto the number with the blue tack.  Then by Christmas the whole wreath will be filled with colourful decorations and no more numbers will be showing.

Time to countdown to the big day!
