Ethan loves Lego, it is his absolute favourite thing to play with, and I'll be honest with you, I couldn't be happier about it. It is the most versatile toy, it encourages creativity and develops fine motor skills and is super fun to play with. Ethan always plays with Lego at home, but whenever we have tried taking it out with us, we've ended up losing pieces. So I decided to try and make Ethan a special case that he could build his Lego creations in as well as carry them around when we travel or even just go out for the day. It's even great to use at home, this way when Ethan's in the middle of building something we can just shut the case and he can get back to it later without leaving little pieces everywhere (for me to step on!)

What you'll need to make a Lego Busy Box
- cardboard suitcase (buy from Amazon US / Amazon UK)
- Lego base plates (buy from Amazon US / Amazon UK)
- super glue (buy from Amazon US / Amazon UK)
- Lego bricks (buy from Amazon US / Amazon UK)
I used super glue to stick this all together, so it was definitely a job for a grown up, and it was also fun to surprise Ethan with his Lego carry case one day after school. I started by finding all of the materials, the suitcase that I used is the large one from the Sass & Belle sets, so I started by measuring that and finding base plates that would fit nicely. I lucked out as I was able to find some non Lego branded base plates from the pound shop that fit perfectly. It may be difficult to find genuine Lego base plates in the size that you need, so I do suggest that you check the measurements before ordering your materials.
As I had found the perfect size of base plates I used three of them, two on each of the inside surfaces and one on the outside. I used plenty of super glue around all of the edges to stick them down and then left them to dry.
Once dry I used tiny Lego bricks to spell out Ethan's name on the outside base plate. I am so glad that I did this as he absolutely loves it and thought that it was so cool that it was personalised for him.
Now it's ready to play with, Ethan can fill it with assorted Lego bricks and create his own unique structures or put a small set in there, with room to prop up the instructions, a space for the loose pieces at the front and the base plate to build on at the back. I have a feeling this Lego busy box is going to come with us to a lot of places!

ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant! Oli loves building and playing with a few pieces on a daily basis but he has an habit of getting it over the place. This could be the idea solution! Will have a go at this, watch this space :D
