Countdown to Christmas

07:30

I can not believe that it's almost December, and then all of the fun of Christmas truly begins. Even though we start thinking about Christmas a bit early, the real countdown starts on the first of December, and this year (for once!) we're going to be ready!

Elf Countdown to Christmas Tradition

This is a new one for us, we've had little attempts at having a Christmas Elf House and a Christmas Elf Family visit us in the past, but we've never really gone for it with an elf that visits each day.  You could go with the traditional Elf on the Shelf, thought I know not everyone is a fan.  Or you could try out something different with the Kindness Elves and their sweet little messages of gratitude and sharing instead.

Advent Calendars to Countdown to Christmas

It is definitely tradition to have a chocolate advent calendar each year, the kids love them so much!  I prefer to go for the ones with really nice chocolate, but of course the kids love the character ones!  So this year Ethan will get a Paw Patrol chocolate advent calendar (buy from Amazon US / UK) and Ivy will get a Frozen chocolate advent calendar (buy from Amazon US / UK).

And the kids are really lucky this year because they are also each getting a toy advent calendar to open up each day.  Ethan is Lego mad so he will be so excited to see the Lego City Advent Calendar (buy from Amazon US / UK) and Ivy is going to love this Playmobil Advent Calendar (buy from Amazon US / UK)

And I am hoping that we can still do an activity advent calendar like we do every year, even though Ethan is at school now I'm hopeful that we can fit in some Christmassy fun like baking and crafting after school as much as possible throughout December.

If you are looking for a calendar that you can reuse each year, we love this Wooden Countdown to Christmas calendar from Melissa and Doug (buy from Amazon US / UK)

Decorate the house

We always decorate the house for Christmas on the first weekend of December to truly get into the Christmas spirit.  We usually put up and artificial tree, but we may go for a real tree this year, which means we will put it up a bit later.  But I will still fill the house with other festive decorations for the whole month to really get into Christmas early.

We will also write letters to Santa and visit Santa as soon as we get the opportunity to, we need to make sure that he knows what the kids want for Christmas and that we know what we can leave out for him on Christmas Eve.
