Making Huge Bubbles

08:30

We love playing with bubbles and had so much fun trying out painting with bubbles but somehow had never actually tried making our own bubble solution, until now!  We made the easiest bubble solution with just two ingredients and had so much fun trying to make the biggest bubbles possible!

What you'll need:

  • baby shampoo
  • water
  • a large tray / bucket / bowl
  • hula hoop
  • string
  • straws
  • pipe cleaners
  • imagination

We started out by making our bubble solution using baby shampoo.  I decided to try baby shampoo instead of dish soap as so much of it lands on the kids and covers their hands that I wanted something really gentle.  And as it's a 'no tears' shampoo it also won't do them any harm if a bubble pops in their face.  You'll need to mix equal parts of baby shampoo gently with water and leave the mixture to sit for a few hours.

Then for the fun part!  The first thing that we had to try was making giant bubbles around ourselves.  A word of warning here, the mixture is very slippery!  Please make sure that your kids don't go running in or out of the tray (as both of mine did and fell straight in getting soaked!) It took some time to get the hang of it and try to make big bubbles around the kids, but we had so much fun doing it!

We also tried making our own bubble maker using string threaded between two straws. This was super fun to experiment with making giant bubbles that we could actually see float away.  The kids loved getting their hands into the goopy mixture and learning the technique to make the biggest bubbles.

We will definitely be making our super easy bubble mixture again throughout the summer to try and make even bigger bubbles!
