Valentine's Day Bookmarks

12:17

It is almost Valentine's Day, but we've been so busy this month we've hardly done any crafts!  The children are both also getting to an age where they prefer to come up with their own creations rather than following instructions, so I set them up a simple invitation to create their own Valentine's Day bookmarks to give to their friends and family.

What you'll need to make Valentine's Day bookmarks:

  • colourful patterned card cut into bookmark sized pieces
  • a hole punch
  • heart shaped foam pieces
  • heart shaped buttons
  • heart shaped gems
  • scissors
  • assorted ribbons and string
  • Bostik glu dots
  • Bostik clear glue

I set up the tray of materials for the children to come home to after school, so they could just get started making the bookmarks straight away.

They are both really good at using the glue dots now, they don't need any help to peel the paper apart and stick the dots to the gems that they want on their bookmarks.  Ivy absolutely loves having this independence to create something all by herself.

Ethan also wanted to use some glue to stick on some of the his gems and other hearts, so we chose the clear glue as it wouldn't leave any residue and he finds it easier to squeeze the bottle.

I had already punched holes in the top of the bookmarks for the children (although they probably could have done this step themselves as well) so all they had to do was thread a piece of string or ribbon through the top and tie it in a knot.  Great for their fine motor skills.

We've ended up with quite a lovely collection of bookmarks in the end, the kids can't wait to give them to all of their friends!
