Easter Baskets for Playing and Learning - not a chocolate in sight

23:03

We love Easter (and any reason to celebrate!) it's a great opportunity to welcome spring and all of the fun playing and learning that we can do outdoors (as well as indoors on those rainy days!)  So I wanted to create some Easter baskets for the kids this year that did exactly that. They also get some yummy healthy treats, and won't even miss the chocolate!

First, instead of regular Easter baskets I decided to use bicycle baskets!  These ones are perfect as they can fit on pretty much any bike or scooter and they promote the kids being active outdoors this spring (and they can also carry their own water and snacks this way!)

Next of course we have some books, each year the kids get a new Easter book and they love pulling them all out in the lead up to Easter.  They're perfect for rainy days snuggled up on our cosy reading mat, or bringing outside to read in our play tent on a sunny day.

Time for some creative play, arts and crafts materials are always a great plan (but we have so many!) so instead I've gone for some imaginative play toys.  The kids are absolutely going to love these!  Perfect for small world play in their little houses indoors or outside in the garden.  And they're all characters and types of toys that they already love and will add to their collections.  Ivy is going to be so excited to have a rabbit family for her Sylvanian collection, a sweet little Miffy toy to cuddle and play with her other soft toys and Ethan is going to love an Easter Lego set!

It's also a great time to give the children some new educational games.  There are some great new mini games from Orchard Toys that are perfect for travel and days out.  We love to take a few with us on the plane or with us if we're staying in a cottage in the UK (there are always rainy days!) Little Bug Bingo is great for learning about and identifying a variety of different insects and working on game playing skills and Animal Families is a matching game perfect for memory skills and learning about different members of animal families.
Another great game for Easter is Hoppy Floppy's Happy Hunt Game from Learning Resources.  It's one of our favourites, great for fine motor skills and playing together as a family.

As for the treats, we are not short on those either!  Of course the kids will get some chocolate for Easter from various different people, so we do like to balance it out with healthy treats that they will also really enjoy. We always love the delicious healthy treats from Kiddylicious and Organix. They're great for the Easter baskets and also perfect for hiding in plastic Easter eggs for the hunt!
