Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Song Basket

08:00

These dark winter days have been inspiring us for some simple indoor activities, and to make our own ways to light up a dark room, which is why we came up with this fun and easy to put together song basket on one rainy afternoon.

What you'll need to set up a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Song Basket:

  • basket
  • glow in the dark stars
  • wooden / plastic / polystyrene stars
  • shakers
  • bells
  • finger lights
We started by singing the song together and then looking around our toy boxes for items to add to our song basket.  The kids love searching around for all things, like their own little scavenger hunt.  They found plenty of stars, twinkly lights and instruments, and even a diamond shaped block.

Then we sat together and sang the song whilst playing the instruments and picking up the different props from the basket.  It's a great way to start a conversation about the song and encourage the children to ask lots of questions about what it means and about the stars themselves.

We also love to charge up the glowing stars and turn off the lights in the room then shine our little finger lights around and sing.  The kids love a dark adventure, and there's nothing better on a rainy afternoon than sitting in the dark and singing together.
