Sticker Shape Matching

08:30

Today we've been playing with foam stickers.  We love these stickers and often use them for crafts, but they can also be great learning tools.  They can be used for sorting, tracing and matching for a fun activity for kids that helps them learn to identify shapes.

What you'll need:
  • foam stickers (we used these weather ones)
  • paper
  • pencil

This is a super simple activity with great learning outcomes that can be repeated many times with any design of foam stickers.  Ethan started by choosing a few different weather stickers that he wanted to use.  Then one at a time he traced each one onto the piece of paper.  This is a skill that he is still working on, as it is quite tricky to hold the sticker in place as he traces around it, but he is doing really well and gets better each time.

Once he had traced all of the stickers he chose one sticker at a time to match up.  First he had to peel the paper off of the sticker, which is great for fine motor skills.

Next he matched each sticker up to the outline on the page.  He did this really easily and quickly.

To make it more of a challenge with more than one child it might be fun for them to each trace their shapes then switch and complete each others puzzles.

  1. I love how Ethan used the stickers as a template and did it himself. What great independence!

    1. We are really working on his confidence as he often wants help doing things that I know he's capable of. He's then so proud of himself when he can do it, that it's absolutely worth it :)
