Firework Play Dough

13:00

It's nearly bonfire night and we love fireworks, so we're making all sorts of firework crafts and even making them in our play dough!  It's a busy week after the craziness of Halloween, so it's nice to have a simple way to play, and this little set up is just that.

I really did go for super simple materials and set out a tray with blue play dough (I did think about making a nice black sparkly dough, but like I said, today was all about simplicity!) I also put out some sparkly pipe cleaners, yellow pipe cleaners, gold string and confetti stars.

Then I just asked Ethan to make some fireworks and let him make them in his own way.  He started by rolling the play dough into small balls, then sticking pipe cleaners all around it.  First he said that it looked like a bug, then he continued putting pipe cleaners all around.

It kept him busy for ages creating different fireworks and putting the star confetti all around.  He started asking for other tools to make marks in his fireworks and to cut them up into pieces and create all sorts of different designs.  It really was a great way to get talking about fireworks and having some fun on a rainy day.
