Happy St George's Day!

19:33

Today is St George's Day, England's national day.  Unfortunately it's not a public holiday, but we still like to acknowledge it in our own way.  Things have been a bit hectic around here lately, so I actually forgot until this morning (terrible I know!) We had a lovely morning playing outside in the garden and then I started talking to Ethan about St George and how he was a knight that fought a dragon (that got his attention!) and we decided to make a shield like a knight and decorate it with the St George's cross.  Great for Ethan's Knowledge and Understanding of the World to learn about holidays and his Creative Development in making the shield.

Ethan really enjoyed making it, I drew the cross and gave him the red marker to colour it in.  I was really impressed at the effort he made to colour within the cross.  Then we decided that it needed more decorating, so went inside to get stickers.  Ethan chose butterflies and fish...no particular reason, but as we didn't have any more appropriate stickers I didn't argue!  When he was finished with the shield we played St George and the dragon, which just involved me chasing him around the garden pretending to be a dragon, he loved it!
